Susan Cartwright, a sketcher and painter since childhood, when nearing retirement in 2015 discovered printmaking and knew she had found “her” medium. Although she continues to paint in watercolours and acrylic and enjoys working with wood, fibre and textiles, she now focuses on relief and intaglio prints. The natural environment, including the plants, birds and animals she observes around her, and her love of colour, pattern and texture, inspire her art. She is an inveterate recycler, looking for ways to give materials another life in our increasingly disposable world by incorporating them in her printmaking.
